    Mr. Arnold Paul Smith, Age 84, of Story, passed away January 21, 2013. He was born February 29, 1928 to the late O.K. and Wilma Stachey Smith. He was married to Beth Owens Smith on May 14, 1986. He was a member of the Mount Tabor Baptist Church. He served in the Military, Navy, Air Force, Marines and was a Korean War Veteran. Mr. Smith was retired from the Houston, TX Police department, Harris County Sheriff’s Department, and served two terms as Montgomery County Sheriff. He served 41 years of law enforcement. He was also a member of the Black Springs Masonic Lodge.

    Daughter: Lynn and Mike Garris of Brenham, TX
    Sons: Jason Lenderman of Mount Ida
    Aaron and Amber Lenderman of Pottsville
    Grandchildren: Scott and Wife Becky Ballard, Lauren and Landon Lenderman

    Great-Grandchildren: Lyndsey and Logan Ballard.
    Brother: Bob Smith of Torrance, CA
    Sister: Kay Smith of Corpus Christi, TX and Jeannette Podraza of Houston, TX
    He is Preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons Arnold Paul Smith Jr. and Phillip Wayne Smith and 1 sister Betty Whiting.
    There will be a family and friend visitation Thursday January 24 from 6-8 p.m.at Thornton Funeral Home in Mount Ida. Services will be held Friday January 25 at Refuge Baptist Church in Story at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Johnny Bratton and Ed Depriest officiating. Burial will follow at Reed Cemetery. Pallbearers: Earl Gene White, Ricky Nooner, Loyd Lewis, Jon Standridge, David Owens and Jim Owens. Honorary Pallbearers: David White, Michael White, Keith Saveall, Jamie Saveall, Ron Shaw, Raze Rowland, Members of the Houston Retired Police Officers Association and Members of the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. Services will be held under the direction of Thornton Funeral Home of Mount Ida.
